The George Ward Centre is a community centre, based in the heart of the village of Barwell, in South West Leicestershire.
Named after Barwell-man Mr George Ward, a boot and shoe factory owner, who was also a local Councillor and the borough's MP 1923-24.
He did lots of good works for the village and left his house, 'The Cedars,' to the people of the village for the good of the community upon the event of his death.
Many years later the Cedars sadly ended up to be no longer viable, so was sold and a community group was formed to use the funds from the sale to establish our £2million Centre in 2010.
The Centre has a sports hall and several other rooms which are available to hire.
A number of services aimed at helping people are run from the Centre, including a regular Mum's and Tots group and a weekly activity session that is ran in our coffee shop where you can take part in crafts and cooking on a budget with an air fryer.
The Centre receives no statutory funding and is reliant on room hiring, donations and grants to continue to operate.
